Pirastro Tonica 4/4 Violin E String - Aluminum/Steel - Medium Gauge - Ball End Review

Pirastro Tonica 4/4 Violin E String - Aluminum/Steel - Medium Gauge - Ball End
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having being a fan of the Vision string set, I had always been worried about the Vision e string. It did not match the set for brilliancy and strength. On my violin it (the vision e) lacked some response and did not resonate as well. So I thought to replace it with a Jargar forte e, however those being hard to find, I searched through my e-string bags and found a Tonica e. I figured I'd try it to see if there is an improvement to the Vision e, not expecting anything. However once I strung up my violin, I could hear the ringing sound and confirmed that it had more depth and presence as well as better response. The rest of the set is Vision, and matches very well with this Tonica e.

Cherrywood Violin Bow, 4/4 Size Review

Cherrywood Violin Bow, 4/4 Size

I feel like I've spent hours trying to rosin this bow adequately. No matter how much rosin I apply I just can't get enough on the middle section of the bow to produce good tone. I purchased this as an interim bow to use while having my old one restrung, but ended up just having to wait for the repairs to be finished.

Florea Prodigy violin outfit 4/4 Size Review

I ordered one of these violins. Just opened the case and saw it looked like an "unfinished" violin. I think, the violin makers does not finished their work yet, because there is no varnish on the violin and you can find trace of tools all over the violin (dents and scratches due to files). Of course, it was not used at all. What you get is completely different than what you can see in the posted pictures on the homepage that shows so a nice and glossy violin. I returned the violin in the first moment without installation!

Whistler - Introducing the Positions, Volume 2 Violin Published by Rubank Publications Review

Whistler - Introducing the Positions, Volume 2 Violin Published by Rubank Publications
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a good book for beginners looking to practice second, fourth, sixth and seventh positions. It's also nice as an exercise books for more advanced students who want something to practice their higher positions in. There's several different keys you can practice each position in with the fingers for the position you're studying, and it goes over some of the more usual patterns like arpeggios and scales.

Guarneri 1/2 Violin Chinrest - Ebony with Standard Bracket Review

Guarneri 1/2 Violin Chinrest - Ebony with Standard Bracket
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like products carried by Johnson strings and think that they are wonderful people, However, I'm sorry to say this product lets me down. First off, it did not properly fit my kid's 1/2 violin. Those screws are not strong and the thread is not in good precision. The pressure is not applied evenly when the screws are tightened. We ended up replacing the screws from another older chin rest.

Westminster 4/4 Violin E String - Thick Gauge #27.5 - Plain Steel - Ball End Review

Westminster 4/4 Violin E String - Thick Gauge #27.5 - Plain Steel - Ball End
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the E string that plays best on my chamber and solo violins. It is a matter of what suits a particular violin and the inherent tension of the set of strings chosen. Westminster E strings don't whistle and play easily with a less metalic sound than many strings. A real joy on my 100 year old as well as my new violin.

Kun Mini Collapsible Violin Shoulder Rest (Mini Red 1/4-1/16 Size) Review

Kun Mini Collapsible Violin Shoulder Rest (Mini Red 1/4-1/16 Size)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My daughter has been using a sponge shoulder rest for 1 year and recently moved up to 1/4 size violin.
I was hoping to find a shoulder rest that can accommodate 1/4 and 1/2 size so that she can use it for a couple years, but I couldn't find anything decent. So I ended up buying this one because I have a full size (4/4) collapsible one from Kun myself and I am reasonably happey with it.
The design of this one is the same as the full size one. The height of the shoulder rest is adjusted by turning the 2 screws in/out of the base, which is made entirely of plastic. It turns out that even at its maximal height (which is achieved by unscrewing the 2 screws as much as possible before they fall off the base), it is still not enough for my daughter whose neck is considered average or slightly longer than average if I look at kids in her class. I suspect many kids who try to use this with 1/4 violin may face similar problem. We end up wrapping a piece of cloth around the foam and still use it. The real problem is that when you have to use it at its maximal height, you have 2 metal screws into a plastic base in the minimal number of turns (to achieve the maximal height). Under this condition, a lot of stress is applied to the threads (out of the plastic base) which is going to wear out very soon. So the durability is questionable. In contrast, the full size one that I use have very long screws. So at least 1/3 of the screws are seated in the base, which reduces the wear of individual threads. I guess Kun can't use really long screws for this miniature model because the plastic pieces where the screws seat are much smaller than those in the full size one. That is the fundamental limit of the design when you try to make a shoulder rest to accommodate a wide range of violin sizes and kids with different neck length.
The bottom line: if you are buying this for 1/16 to 1/8 size of violin, it should be fine.
If it's for 1/4 and your kid has an average or long neck, you might want to consider the original Kun that is not collapsible but designed to accommodate 1/8 to 1/4 size violin.
If you intend to buy it and use it for a few years, I am not sure it will last.

CREMONA PREMIER STUDENT VIOLIN OUTFIT 1/10 Review

CREMONA PREMIER STUDENT VIOLIN OUTFIT 1/10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this violin for our 3-year-old daughter. She is now 4. She is doing well with this violin. The stings were replaced with Thomastik Dominant Violin Strings. This improved the sound quality nicely. Very pleased with the violin and would suggest this violin, yet the strings that come with the violin are not the best quality. Yet, lets be realistic. There is [almost] no violin in this price range, and this size that will come with anything but the least expensive strings. A little up grade on the strings and you will have a violin that you will be pleased with. The structure and construction of the violin is completed well. The finish is fine. The pegs, fingerboard, body, and wood quality are of good quality materials. The fine tuners work well. Very pleased for this price. Went to local brick and mortar music stores and they wanted about $500 - $600 for the same or similar instrument. I would suggest this violin and give it a positive review.

Thomastik Infeld Violin Solo Viola A String - Full Size - Medium Gauge Review

Thomastik Infeld Violin Solo Viola A String - Full Size - Medium Gauge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a modern 1992 handmade viola from the W.H. Lee shop. It is a bright, responsive viola and I love it, but sometimes I wish I had a little more warmth without losing the quick response and big sound. I have experimented with many strings over the years but I always come back to Dominants. Most other strings seem to have a metallic sound that doesn't work with my viola at all. It has been a few years since i experimented, but I noticed Thomastik had a new line of viola strings, the Vision Solo. Skeptical, I bought only the A string to give it a test run. I love it! I would say they exceed Dominants in their responsiveness and clarity of sound, but have a bit more warmth - exactly what I was looking for! I highly recommend them, but with the caveat that every instrument sounds different and will respond differently to a set of strings. For me, this is the only one besides Dominants that I have ever liked on my viola.
